A Simple Guide To Using SoundCloud To Understand English Better
Updated May 2022
Want to understand English native speakers better? Want to simplify the process so that you can save time, money and sanity?
You’re in the right place!
My listening motto, that I’ll hope you’ll adopt too is – less is more in listening.
I don’t believe in just practising listening to understand. I believe in teaching you how to understand fast, conversational English.
You don’t need hours and hours of mindless practice.
You need to learn to do more with less.
Because less is more.
Let me explain.
- You see, it’s often better to listen to 1 audio multiple times than to listen to 10 different audios.
- Or to listen to one extract 10 times in detail than to listen once superficially.
- The same goes for resources. You don’t need 10 resources where one will do.
So in the spirit of less is more, let me show you one tool that can improve your listening in multiple ways.
A tool that lets you:
- Find audio, including podcasts, audiobooks, music and more
- Listen to audio
- Download audio
- Add comments to the audio – this is the coolest part
- Upload your own recordings
- Listen to and comment on my podcast
- Share audio
- And more
What is this magical tool you ask? Soundcloud. I use it every day.
- To listen to podcasts
- With my students
- And to upload my podcasts of course!
I’m sharing two video tutorials in this post. Watch them and get started with Soundcloud in just a few minutes.
A Guide To Finding English Listening Materials On SoundCloud
Wondering where to find material to improve your English listening skills and understand native speakers better? Make your life easy and search on SoundCloud – you can find everything from podcasts to music and more.
One resource is not necessarily better than another – what matters is whether or not you’re motivated to listen to it. That’s why it’s so great to have a place like SoundCloud where you can find so many English listening resources in one place!
A Guide To Improving Your English Listening Skills on Soundcloud
Not only is SoundCloud a gold mine for listening material, it also has an in-built tool that you can use to do your own dictations. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do that. Many thanks to Idahosa Ness from the Mimic Method who I first learned this technique from.
Next Steps And Over To You

They also have a handy little app which is cool for listening to podcasts when you’re out and about.
