Movie Night: A One-to-One Speaking Session

Arrive confident and ready to talk about an episode of a hit Netflix series, and the deeper questions it asks us about life

Are you tired of watching series and films alone and not being sure you really understood the cultural references…or the expressions?

Do you love series, but you’re not sure you’re really improving your English as you watch them?

Are you sick of small talk–in English conversations or in general?

In “Movie Night” you’ll immerse yourself in the dark tech-dystopia of an episode of Netflix hit series, “Black Mirror.” It’s just the kind of series that will make you want to question life and the reality around you.

And this time you’ll watch with your “Movie Night” guide. It’s a short and sweet guide with hand-picked additional resources, cultural and language notes, and listening strategies. You’ll get to experience the joy of being able to understand a series without the subtitles.

And you’ll learn plenty of authentic expressions native speakers use in the series, so you can use them in real life.

Thanks to the reflection questions in your “Movie Night” guide, you’ll be ready for your one-on-one conversation session on a series that native speakers love to talk about.

And you’ll be confident discussing some of the big questions the series asks us about life, technology and what it means to be human today.

An individual English session for people who are passionate about series and want to change the way they watch and discuss them.

How Movie Night Works

movies on the run in action 3

Harnessing your interests and passions is a little bit like tapping into a language-learning superpower.

You’ve probably experienced it before–the way you just learn better when what you’re doing grabs your entire attention and speaks to who you are.

For some of us, the best way to do that is by watching and discussing a great series. Or talking about life’s big questions.

But just watching series by yourself is not enough–even if you’re passionate about it.

You need to do more than sit back and watch. You need to take time to understand the cultural references, use effective listening strategies, learn and practice new expressions.

And most of all, talk about it all with someone.

That’s why I’ve put together “Movie Night” just for you.

In “Movie Night” you’ll have a chance to:

  • watch one of the most famous Black Mirror episodes, that I’ve curated just for you to capture your interest and spark great conversations
  • deepen your understanding and learning with your “Movie Night” guide before, during and after watching thanks to questions for reflection and discussion, behind the scenes information, and language support
  • talk about the life’s questions raised in the series in your 45-minute session with a native speaker and series-lover (me)
  • feel confident and fluent because you’ve watched, listened, reflected and practiced beforehand

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a refund?

Once you have booked your session, there are no refunds. You can reschedule within 24 hours in case of emergency. Please also make sure that you have enough time to watch the episode before we meet to talk about it.

What is "Black Mirror" about?

The series explores what could happen to humanity if we become too dependent on technology. That makes it perfect for starting interesting discussions.

Each episode is stand-alone, like a movie but shorter, so you don’t have to watch all the episodes in a season to follow it.

If you’ve enjoyed any of the most famous series of the last 10 years such as “Breaking Bad”, “Game of Thrones” or “Stranger Things”, then you’ll love “Black Mirror”.

Do you provide the episode or access to Netflix?

The episode is not included in the session or the guide. You’ll need to make sure that you have access to Netflix and Black Mirror before you purchase your session.

Is this session for beginners or low intermediates?

No, this session is not suitable for beginners or low intermediate level students (A1-A2 on the CEFR). To get the most from this session, I recommend that you have at least an intermediate level (B1 on the CEFR).
